U.S. skips COP30 as record 56,000 delegates gather in Brazil

For the first time in the history of U.N. climate talks, the United States has no delegation at the COP30 summit in Belém, Brazil.

The move follows President Donald Trump’s decision to restart the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement earlier this year.

Despite the absence, more than 56,000 delegates,  one of the largest turnouts in COP history, have registered for the talks, with Brazil, China and Nigeria sending the biggest teams.
