The UK and 26 other countries have jointly called on Israel to grant independent foreign journalists immediate access to Gaza. The statement, backed by France, Germany, Australia and Japan under the Media Freedom Coalition, also condemned repeated attacks on reporters.
Israel has barred international journalists from entering Gaza independently since the war began nearly two years ago, with access only permitted under Israeli military escort. Rights groups say this has left local Palestinian journalists, many of whom have been killed, as the sole independent witnesses.

The Committee to Protect Journalists describes the conflict as the deadliest for media workers ever recorded, with more than 200 killed. Recent strikes claimed the lives of Al Jazeera’s Anas al-Sharif and five colleagues.
Signatories said restricting access obstructs accountability and urged investigations into the targeting of journalists.
