More than 80 members of the UK Parliament have urged Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to guarantee the safety of British citizens joining the Global Sumud Flotilla, which seeks to challenge Israel’s blockade of Gaza. Lawmakers warned of the risks posed by Israel’s past confrontations with similar convoys.
The letter, signed by former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, veteran MP Diane Abbott, Zara Sultana, and a group of independents, stressed that those on board include aid workers, healthcare staff, journalists, and activists—not combatants. MPs cautioned that treating the mission with hostility would endanger lives.

Separately, Sultana called on the UK government to follow Spain’s example by deploying naval support to safeguard citizens. She argued that Britain has a duty to protect its nationals, particularly given its political stance on the conflict. The Foreign Office has yet to respond publicly.
