UK-Nigeria Trade Hits Record £7.9bn Amid New Partnership Drive

Trade between Nigeria and the United Kingdom has reached £7.9bn, the highest level on record, according to British High Commissioner Richard Montgomery.

Speaking in Abuja, he said the figure reflects a strong upward trend in bilateral economic ties. He credited the surge to the UK-Nigeria Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership, which removes barriers and opens opportunities in priority sectors such as finance, technology, energy, and agriculture.

The initiative also works alongside the Developing Countries Trading Scheme, offering tariff reductions and improved access for Nigerian products.

High Commissioner Montgomery highlighted the UK’s comparative strengths in digital technology, financial services, and the creative economy, while stressing Nigeria’s vast agricultural potential. He said the partnership is designed to generate jobs, attract investment, and deliver growth in both countries, with government and business leaders driving cooperation in key industries.
