UK to Raise Visa Fees by Up to £222 from April 8

The United Kingdom government says it will increase visa fees for visitors, workers and students by up to £222, with the changes taking effect from April 8.

The UK Home Office says the increases are part of broader measures to reduce immigration, alongside stricter policies targeting asylum seekers and migrants working illegally.

Under the new structure, short stay visit visas of up to six months will rise from £127 to £135, while longer term visit visas, work permits and student visas will also see increases. The cost of naturalisation will go up from £1,605 to £1,709.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood says the changes follow a rise in asylum applications from countries including Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan, with additional measures including payments of up to £10,000 for failed asylum seekers who agree to leave voluntarily.
