The British government has announced plans to formally recognise Palestinian statehood by September, ahead of the UN General Assembly.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer says the move will proceed unless Israel takes concrete steps to end the crisis in Gaza, agrees to a ceasefire, halts annexation plans in the West Bank, and recommits to a two-state peace process.

While insisting there is no equivalence between Israel and Hamas, Mr. Starmer maintained that British demands on the militant group remain unchanged. The British government says hostages must be released, a ceasefire accepted, disarmament agreed, and Hamas must forfeit any future political role in Gaza.
Mr. Starmer confirmed British aid airdrops have begun, delivering emergency supplies to Gaza. He described the move as part of an eight-point strategy, coordinated with France and Germany, to improve conditions on the ground.
