Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said his government is prepared to abandon its long‑standing goal of joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in exchange for legally binding security guarantees from Western allies.

Zelenskyy described the change on Sunday as a compromise aimed at advancing talks to end the war with Russia that began in 2022 and has since caused tens of thousands of deaths and widespread destruction.
