Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, has said Kemi Badenoch, leader of the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party, has shown no interest in identifying with her Nigerian roots.

Speaking on Wednesday, Mrs Dabiri-Erewa said attempts to convince Mrs Badenoch to identify with her Nigerianess roots yielded no results after reaching out once or twice.

The NIDCOM Chairperson also said it is up to the new leader of the Conservative party to decide whether she wants to work with Nigeria.

Kemi Badenoch was elected as the leader of the UK’s Conservative Party on 2nd November. She is the first black person to become the leader of a major party in the UK.

Born in the UK to Nigerian Yoruba parents in January 1980, she returned to Nigeria shortly after her birth and was raised here until she was 16, before going back to the UK.
