Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq has expressed his support for the newly appointed head coach, Eric Chelle, and believes the 47-year-old will succeed in his role. Chelle, named as the Super Eagles’ substantive coach earlier this month, has faced significant criticism following his appointment by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Despite the backlash, Sadiq remains confident that Chelle will deliver results, pointing to his strong credentials, including leading Mali to their first victory over Nigeria in 50 years during a friendly last March. The former defender’s experience is seen as a key factor in his ability to lead the Super Eagles effectively.

Chelle’s first official match as head coach will come in March, when Nigeria faces Rwanda in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture.
