The United Nations has sharply criticised a new Israeli-led aid operation in southern Gaza, following scenes of chaos during its launch on Tuesday. Thousands of desperate Palestinians swarmed a food distribution hub in Rafah, prompting Israeli troops to fire warning shots.
Branded the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, the initiative sidelines UN agencies and replaces hundreds of existing aid sites with four Israeli-secured hubs overseen by US contractors. Despite Israeli claims that 14,000 parcels have since been distributed without incident, humanitarian groups have boycotted the scheme, calling it a violation of humanitarian principles.

European diplomats have also condemned the militarisation of aid, with the EU’s [Ka-Ya Ka-Las] Kaja Kallas warning against politicising relief efforts.
UN officials insist there is no evidence Hamas has diverted large-scale aid, accusing armed gangs—and Israel’s blockade—for exacerbating the crisis.
