UN Warns of Mass Starvation as Gaza's Children Face Severe Malnutrition

One in five children in Gaza City is now malnourished, with cases rising daily, according to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees. UNRWA’s Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, said people in Gaza resemble ‘walking corpses’, as hunger intensifies.

Over 100 aid groups have called for urgent international action, warning of mass starvation. Israel, which controls access to the territory, insists it is supplying aid in line with international law and blames Hamas for the crisis.

The UN describes current aid levels as a ‘trickle’ and says the situation is unprecedented. WHO chief Tedros Ghebreyesus labelled it “man-made starvation”.

Reports from residents paint a grim picture: soaring food prices, empty markets, and children scavenging for scraps.

More than 1,000 Palestinians have reportedly been killed trying to access aid, as tensions grow around Israeli-run distribution points guarded by private contractors.
