UNICEF ‘Deeply Alarmed’ by Rising Child Casualties in the West Bank

UNICEF has expressed deep concern over the increasing number of child casualties in the West Bank. Edouard Beigbeder, the organisation’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, warned of a worsening crisis, citing a sharp rise in deaths and injuries.

In the first two months of 2025 alone, 13 Palestinian children have been killed. Seven of these deaths occurred after 19 January, following a major military operation in the north. Since 7 October 2023, at least 195 Palestinian children and three Israeli children have lost their lives in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

Beigbeder highlighted a 200% increase in Palestinian child fatalities over the past 16 months compared to the previous period. He reiterated UNICEF’s commitment to working with partners to provide immediate relief and long-term support to affected children and families across the region.
