UNICEF has warned that Palestinians returning to northern Gaza are in desperate need of food and water as vast areas lie in ruins. Speaking from al-Mawasi in southern Gaza, UNICEF spokesperson Tess Ingram said thousands have gone back to what she labelled as ‘total destruction,’ with aid deliveries unable to meet urgent needs.
Ms. Ingram noted that more than 28,000 children were diagnosed with malnutrition in July and August alone, urging that border crossings be opened to allow not only food but also therapeutic treatments. She stressed that “the stakes are really high.”

She added that humanitarian aid to Gaza has been severely restricted over the past two years, with UN agencies sidelined. Ingram called the current ceasefire an opportunity to restore full access, saying Israel must now allow large-scale aid and commercial goods into Gaza.
