The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, and the Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, have announced a one-day nationwide protest on Thursday over the Federal Government’s failure to address long-standing labour grievances.
The Joint Action Committee of both unions directed branches to hold emergency meetings on Wednesday to mobilise members for protest marches, press briefings, and campus demonstrations. The decision followed what the unions described as minimal progress in talks with the Ministry of Education despite repeated ultimatums.

Their demands include payment of outstanding salaries, arrears of earned allowances, and full implementation of the 2009 government–union agreements. Union leaders said the protest was a warning and warned that a total, indefinite strike could follow if issues remain unresolved, accusing government negotiators of insincerity and neglecting non-academic staff welfare.
