The United States government has expressed “deep concern” over the significant civilian casualties resulting from an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in northern Gaza, which reportedly killed at least 93 people, many of them children.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, Tuesday’s attack on a building in Beit Lahiya left at least 93 Palestinians dead or unaccounted for, with dozens more wounded. Among the victims, medics reported, were at least 20 children.
Addressing the press, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller described the loss of civilian life as both tragic and horrifying, emphasising the particular vulnerability of children who had been fleeing the effects of the prolonged attacks on the region.
Mr. Miller added that US officials have reached out to the Israeli government seeking clarity on the circumstances of the strike and its impact on civilian populations.
