The U.S. deadline for increased humanitarian aid to Gaza, linked to a conditional reduction in weapons support to Israel, expired on Tuesday. However, the Biden administration announced it would not restrict arms shipments to Israel.
Aid levels into Gaza have hit a new low, with nearly the entire population of 2.3 million Palestinians now dependent on international assistance. Food security analysts and rights groups warn that parts of northern Gaza may already be on the brink of famine, as border controls continue to restrict aid flow.
Israel, which maintains control over Gaza’s border crossings, has committed to facilitating humanitarian deliveries but stresses the need for better aid distribution by international agencies. Israeli officials claim some aid is intercepted by criminal gangs before reaching civilians.
While the U.S. calls for 350 trucks of aid daily, Israeli data shows an average of 57 trucks entering daily in October and 75 in November, with the U.N. reporting even lower figures.
