The United States has deported 177 Venezuelan migrants from the Washington-controlled Guantanamo military base, transferring them through Honduras before their final arrival in Caracas. The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed the operation on Thursday.
Venezuelan authorities took custody of the deportees at the Soto Cano airbase in Honduras before they were flown home on a Conviasa flight. Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello welcomed the arrivals personally, stating that all would undergo health checks before facing any pending legal proceedings.

According to the US Department of Homeland Security, 126 of the deportees had criminal records, including 80 allegedly linked to the Tren de Aragua criminal organisation. The remaining 51 had no known charges.
President Nicolás Maduro described the deportation as a “rescue” facilitated by a direct request from his government to Washington. The move comes amid ongoing diplomatic engagements between the two countries.
