The United States government shutdown entered its third week on Monday, with Congress still deadlocked over spending and no sign of compromise between Republicans and Democrats. The standoff has already led to thousands of job losses and widespread disruption across federal agencies.
President Donald Trump has intensified pressure on Democrats to back Republican funding proposals, warning of further layoffs if the impasse continues. About 1.3 million active-duty troops are set to miss their first paychecks this week, though the Pentagon is attempting to redirect funds to cover salaries.
