US President Donald Trump has written to Israel’s President Isaac Herzog, urging him to pardon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing the corruption charges against him as ‘political’ and ‘unjustified.’ The letter, published by Israeli media on Wednesday, comes weeks after a fragile ceasefire in Gaza brokered by Washington.
Trump praised Netanyahu’s wartime leadership, calling him “a decisive leader now guiding Israel into peace.” He said a pardon would “unite Israel” and end what he termed “lawfare.” The Israeli presidency, though largely ceremonial, holds the power to grant pardons only after a verdict is reached.

President Herzog responded that any request must follow due legal process. The appeal underscores President Trump’s growing alignment with right-wing leaders and his renewed involvement in Middle East politics.
