US Senator, Chris Van Hollen, has demanded that the Biden administration penalise far-right Israeli minister Bezalel Smotrich over his policies against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
Earlier this year, President Biden issued an executive order to impose sanctions on individuals who, according to him, are “undermining peace, security and stability” in the West Bank. So far, four private Israeli citizens have been sanctioned under the directive.
Speaking at the Center for American Progress, a liberal think-tank, Senator Van Hollen said Minister Smotrich should be subject to sanctions under the Executive Order.

The US Senator added that Minister Smotrich’s stated goal is for Israel to take over the entire West Bank.
