US Senators Demand Probe into Trump Market Conduct Ahead of Tariff Reversal

A number of US lawmakers are calling for an investigation into whether President Donald Trump engaged in market manipulation or insider trading after urging the public to buy stocks shortly before announcing a major policy shift on tariffs.

Democratic Senator Adam Schiff took to X (formerly Twitter) to question whether any individuals had advance knowledge of the tariff suspension and capitalised on it financially.

Members of the House Financial Services Committee also accused the President of orchestrating what they described as “the world’s biggest market manipulation scheme.”

Their concerns follow a post by President Trump urging Americans to invest just minutes after Wall Street opened. Hours later, he suspended additional tariffs on dozens of countries—excluding China—sparking a dramatic market rally.

The Dow Jones soared by nearly 8 percent, its strongest one-day performance since 2008, while the Nasdaq surged over 12 percent. Shares in Trump’s media company closed up more than 21 percent.
