Vice President Kashim Shettima has inaugurated a new 15 megavolt-amperes injection substation in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing recent attacks on the nation’s power infrastructure as a matter of urgent concern.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, held at the College of Agriculture in Maiduguri, the Vice President underscored the critical need to protect power installations from acts of vandalism and sabotage, warning of the significant economic toll posed by disruptions to electricity supply.

He called on security agencies, as well as the general public, to play an active role in safeguarding the country’s energy assets, stressing that a collaborative effort was essential to ensuring stable power delivery.
Vice President Shettima also advocated for the decentralisation of power generation, with a focus on increasing capacity closer to points of consumption. This, he said, would enhance grid stability, particularly in the North-East region, which has faced repeated power outages and infrastructure challenges in recent years.
