Vice-President Kashim Shettima has revealed that President Bola Tinubu is deeply concerned about the increasing frequency of petrol tanker explosions in the country. His statement follows a deadly explosion on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Ugwu-Onyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, which resulted in numerous fatalities.
The explosion, which involved a petrol-laden tanker, reportedly consumed several vehicles, leaving scores of people dead and destroying about eight vehicles. Shettima, in his Monday statement, described the incident as tragic and called for an end to such recurrent disasters.

The vice-president expressed his sadness over the event and offered his condolences to the people and government of Enugu State. He also confirmed that President Tinubu has directed relevant agencies to take decisive action to prevent future petrol tanker explosions.
Shettima emphasised that the situation had become unacceptable, and it was imperative to find lasting solutions to the recurring issue.
