Real Madrid forward Vinícius Jr. has been crowned FIFA Best Men’s Player of the Year, receiving the prestigious award during a ceremony in Doha on Tuesday, as Barcelona’s midfield maestro Aitana Bonmatí claimed the FIFA Best Women’s Player award for the second consecutive year.
The 24-year old Vinícius clinched the honour just two months after finishing runner-up in the Ballon d’Or. Real Madrid had notably boycotted that event, reportedly dissatisfied upon learning that Manchester City’s Rodri would take the top spot.

The Brazilian succeeds Lionel Messi, who won the men’s award in the past two editions. Vinícius’ performances last season saw him score 24 goals and provide 11 assists in 39 appearances, playing a pivotal role in Real Madrid’s triumphs in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.
Bonmatí’s achievement further cements her status as one of the finest in women’s football, continuing a dominant year for Barcelona’s midfield talisman.
