VP Shettima Arrives In New York For 80th UNGA

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in New York to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The week-long meeting begins today and runs until Sunday, September 28.

During the visit, the Vice President will deliver Nigeria’s national statement, announce updated climate commitments under the Paris Agreement, and take part in high-level debates, roundtables, and bilateral meetings.

Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, said the country will push for a global convention on taxation, UN Security Council reforms, and stronger roles in peacekeeping. He noted that Africa has a united position calling for at least two permanent seats on the Security Council.

Other officials, including Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and Trade Minister Olajumoke Oduwole, said the delegation will also focus on attracting investment in solid minerals, agriculture, telecommunications, and technology as part of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
