Vice President Kashim Shettima, has left Abuja for Addis Ababa to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 2026 African Union Summit in Ethiopia. He departed on Thursday and is accompanied by cabinet ministers and other senior government officials.
The summit is themed “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063”. It will focus on water management, sanitation and the African Union’s long-term development framework.
According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, Mr Shettima will attend the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of AU Heads of State and Government and the 30th General Assembly on 14 and 15 February 2026.

He is also expected to take part in side events and hold bilateral meetings with political and business leaders before returning to Nigeria at the end of the summit.
