Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the G20 Leaders Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. The invitation to Nigeria was extended by President Cyril Ramaphosa, who currently chairs the G20. Shettima is expected to return to the country immediately after the summit, which holds from 22 to 23 November at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.
President Tinubu stayed back in Nigeria following security concerns in Kebbi and Kwara States. The Presidency announced that he had postponed his participation in both the G20 Summit and the AU EU Summit in Luanda to receive further security briefings. His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the decision was due to recent attacks and abductions.
