Wale Edun Did NOT Propose N105,000 As New Minimum Wage, Says President’s Information and Strategy Adviser

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser on information and strategy to President Bola Tinubu, says Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, did not propose N105,000 as the new minimum wage.

Taking to his X handle on Thursday, Mr. Onanuga said the story being disseminated is false. His disclaimer came hours after the finance minister submitted new national minimum wage options and projected cost implications to President Tinubu.

On Tuesday, after organised labour suspended its strike and opted for further negotiations, President Tinubu directed Minister Edun to present a template on new minimum wage figures and an analysis of the associated costs within 48 hours.

The labour unions had proposed N615,500 and then N494,000 as the new national minimum wage, which the government said was unrealistic.
