Nigeria will take over the chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four (G-24) from Argentina on November 1, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria. The apex bank said the country will unveil its work programme after consultations with member nations.

The appointment means the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, will assume leadership of the G-24, succeeding Argentina’s Secretary of Finance, Pablo Quirno. The announcement was made during the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

Representing Mr Edun at the meetings, Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening the G-24’s role in promoting inclusive dialogue and global economic reform. He said the group would continue to champion the interests of emerging and developing economies.

Mr Cardoso noted that Nigeria’s earlier economic reforms had built resilience against global shocks, adding that crude oil remained the country’s only major commodity still exposed to international volatility.
