The Federal Government on Tuesday says it is advancing consultations on the plan to reopen the nation’s land borders with neighbouring countries and meeting representatives of the affected countries on ways forward.
While speaking to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, after the inauguration of the National Single Window Project, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Adewale Adeniyi says he has been in touch with his counterparts from Benin Republic and Niger Republic.
According to him, the issues that led to the closure of the borders are currently being considered, along with ways to ensure that such occasions never recur, adding that steady progress is being made in that direction.

He lauded President Bola Tinubu for his strides towards securing Nigeria’s economy, particularly through the newly launched National Single Window Project.
The Nigerian government ordered the immediate closure of our land borders with the neighbouring countries on August 19, 2019, disallowing the movement in and out of goods and services via the land borders. The reasons advanced at the time include insecurity, smuggling and criminal activities.
