President Bola Tinubu has called on leaders of West African countries to unite against terrorism, military takeovers and other security threats confronting the region. He made the call at the 68th ordinary session of the Economic Community of West African States Authority of Heads of State and Government held in Abuja.
Speaking through Vice-President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu said the challenges facing West Africa require collective action, stressing that no country can achieve lasting stability on its own. He said Nigeria remains committed to the ideals of ECOWAS and believes cooperation among member states is essential for regional peace and development.
The president listed terrorism, violent extremism, unconstitutional changes of government, transnational crime, cyber insecurity, climate shocks and food insecurity as key threats to the region. He said West African countries must speak with one voice and act together, adding that fraternity, not force, should define the future of the sub-region.
