The World Health Organization says Gaza’s health system is on the brink of collapse, with only 14 of its 36 hospitals partially functioning and just a third of its primary care centres still operational.
Dr Hanan Balkhy, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, said the territory faces severe shortages of electricity, clean water, medicines, and medical equipment, while repeated strikes have damaged or destroyed key health facilities.

She added that the humanitarian toll is worsening, with seven in ten pregnant and breastfeeding women suffering acute malnutrition and one in five babies being born underweight or prematurely — a situation she described as “catastrophic” for maternal and child health.
