Wife of Ex-Deputy Senate President Ekweremadu Back in Nigeria After Release

Beatrice Ekweremadu, the wife of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, has been released from a UK prison. Mrs Ekweremadu, who was sentenced to five years for charges related to organ harvesting, reportedly returned to Nigeria on Tuesday.

A source, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed her arrival in Abuja after serving her sentence in the United Kingdom. Her release follows the sentencing of her and her husband, alongside Dr. Obinna Obeta, in a UK court.

Senator Ekweremadu, his wife, and Dr. Obeta were convicted in connection with an organ trafficking scheme, which has garnered significant international attention. The Ekweremadus’ legal battles have brought scrutiny to the issue of organ harvesting.

Details surrounding the release of Mrs Ekweremadu remain limited, though her return to Nigeria marks a significant development in the case.
