Wike Declares Friday Work-Free Day Ahead of FCT Poll, Imposes 8pm Movement Restriction

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared the Friday before the Area Council elections a work-free day in Abuja. The announcement covers all federal and local government employees in the capital territory and is intended to allow residents to participate in the polls. 

He also directed a restriction of movement from 8 pm on Friday to 6 am on Saturday across the FCT. The elections will be held across the six area councils and the measures are aimed at facilitating voter turnout and security preparations.

Wike made the declaration in a broadcast on national television and radio outlets, urging eligible voters to come out and exercise their civic right. He said the work-free directive was approved by President Bola

The restriction will be enforced by police and other security personnel across key entry and exit points in the FCT. Authorities said essential service providers such as medical teams and accredited journalists will be allowed passage with valid identification.
