Women Will Drive Africa’s $29 Trillion Economic Transformation, Says VP Shettima

Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to gender inclusion, describing it as a fundamental pillar of national development rather than a mere policy aspiration.

Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Gender Inclusion Conference on Thursday, the Vice President said that women would be central to Africa’s anticipated $29 trillion economic transformation.

The Vice President also launched Project #SheIsIncluded, an initiative aimed at closing gender gaps in financial access and broader economic participation.

This year’s conference, themed ‘Breaking Barriers, Building Resilience for Sustainable Women’s Economic and Financial Inclusion,’ builds on the 2024 Aso Accord for Economic and Financial Inclusion. It reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal number 5, which seeks to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
