The World Bank says increasing use of air conditioners to cope with rising temperatures could put significant strain on power grids in Nigeria and other countries.
The warning was contained in the World Development Report 2025: Standards for Development. In its analysis, the Bank highlights that hotter weather is driving more households and businesses to install air conditioning, leading to spikes in electricity consumption at peak times.
This pattern, it says, threatens to overload power infrastructure that is already struggling in many regions.
