World Cup Qualifiers: South Korea Defeat D’Tigress 77–60

Nigeria’s D’Tigress suffered their first defeat at the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Lyon, losing 77 to 60 to South Korea on Thursday. The loss came less than 24 hours after Nigeria defeated Colombia 70 to 37 in their opening match.

South Korea started strongly and took the first quarter 20 to 16. Nigeria responded in the second quarter as both sides finished the period level at 16 points each, leaving the Koreans with a narrow 36 to 32 lead at halftime.

South Korea maintained their momentum in the third quarter and extended their advantage before dominating the final quarter. The Asian side outscored Nigeria 19 to 9 in the last period to seal the 17-point victory.

Victoria Macaulay led Nigeria with 22 points, while Ezinne Kalu added 11 and Murjanatu Musa scored 10. Despite the defeat, the tournament provides the Nigerian team with an opportunity to fine-tune preparations ahead of the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup.
