YPP Chairman Blames Poor Civic Orientation for Vote Commercialization in Ondo Elections

YPP Chairman Blames Poor Civic Orientation for Vote Commercialization in Ondo Elections
National Chairman of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Bishop Amakiri

Following the Ondo elections, the National Chairman of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Bishop Amakiri, has shared his concerns regarding vote commercialization and the prevalence of inducements during elections.

In an interview, Amakiri criticised the country’s lack of proper civic orientation, which he believes has led to widespread penury and depression. According to him, Nigerian citizens, especially voters, are not yet ready for the kind of transformative change the country needs.

He also spoke on the issue of electoral inducements, stating that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should not be blamed for such practices. Amakiri absolved the electoral body of any wrongdoing, asserting that INEC would never endorse vote-buying.

Amakiri further addressed the argument that poverty and hunger drive voters to accept bribes, saying that the difficulties faced by Nigerians should be the catalyst for demanding real, lasting change—rather than succumbing to short-term inducements.
