Zamfara police arrest man accused of supplying arms to bandits

The Zamfara State Police Command says it has arrested a man accused of supplying arms to bandits in the state. Police identified the suspect as Nasuru Dawan Jiya, who was apprehended on September 15 by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

Police spokesman Yazid Abubakar said officers intercepted a Toyota Corolla carrying passengers along the Gummi–Sokoto Road. A search at Gambanda Godabe village in Gummi Local Government Area uncovered weapons hidden in a bag of oranges belonging to the suspect.

Recovered items included four AK-47 rifles, 200 rounds of live PKT ammunition, 28 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and four empty magazines. During questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed that the arms were destined for bandits in Gurusu village.

The police said investigations are ongoing to track down other accomplices and dismantle the network. The Command reiterated its commitment to clearing Zamfara of criminal groups and ensuring security in the state.
