The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army says it destroyed about 233 illegal refineries across the Niger Delta region in 2023.
Speaking at the Division’s combined West Africa Social Activities (WASA), the GOC, 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdusalam, said that over 1,112 arrests were made while about 1.1 million litres of illegally refined products, 72 trucks/vehicles, and over 356 arms were confiscated last year.
The GOC reassured residents and the business community that an enabling environment will be provided continually for seamless oil production in the Niger Delta region.
WASA is meant to strengthen social relationships among officers, soldiers, and their families. It also provides an avenue for informal social interaction, and a forum for the barracks community to showcase its rich and diverse cultural heritage.
The GOC also noted that the 2023 training exercises were all successfully completed with huge gains, stressing that the annual Exercise, STILL WATERS III, had gone a long way in curtailing criminal activities in the Niger Delta.
Rivers State Governor, Similanayi Fubara, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, called for better civilian-military cooperation, saying it would go a long way to foster and strengthen a healthy society like Nigeria.
