25 Killed in Bauchi as Bandits Clash With Vigilantes

At least 25 people have been killed in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State following a violent clash between suspected bandits and members of a local vigilante group. The casualties include nine vigilantes, five bandits, and 11 abducted residents who were caught in the crossfire.

The incident occurred on Sunday night after vigilantes pursued the bandits, who had earlier kidnapped 16 villagers and rustled around 500 cattle from a neighbouring village. A gun battle broke out around Dajin Madam forest as the vigilantes attempted to rescue the victims.

Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the recovery of bodies and has deployed a specialised team to track down those behind the attack. Reacting to the attack, Governor Bala Mohammed described the ambush as a heinous act and assured that efforts were ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The governor extended condolences to affected families and praised the fallen vigilantes as heroes. He urged residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information to combat rising insecurity in the state.
