Five persons including a retired police officer, a nursing mother, and her baby, as well as two minors, have been rescued from among the 32 passengers who were kidnapped at the Ekehen Train Station in Edo State two days ago. Their rescue was announced by SP Chidi Nwabuzor, Police Spokesperson of the Edo State Command.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) says services on the Itakpe-Warri rail line will not be affected, despite Saturday’s violent attack.
Fidet Okhiria, NRC Managing Director, who was speaking to journalists gave the assurance that additional security measures will be introduced.
He however stated that the Ekehen Station will be temporarily closed in the meantime.
