IPAC Threatens To Sue Gombe Electoral Commission Over LG Poll

The Gombe State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has threatened to sue the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC) over its failure to conduct elections for 11 Local Government Councils.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Commission, the state chapter chairman of IPAC, Muhammed Sulaiman Kumo, and 17 others, gave the commission a one-week ultimatum to conduct the election or risk legal action

Kumo, who is also the Chairman of National Rescue Movement (NRM), decried that GOSIEC refused to release a timetable for the election, less than 37 days to the expiration of the tenure of the present caretaker committee of the 11 local government councils of the state.

According to him, the IPAC has been appealing, unsuccessfully, with the commission to adhere to the constitutional provision of either 150, 90 days, 60 and 30 days.

The chairman, therefore, called on the GOSIEC and the state government to immediately make arrangements to conduct the local government elections in the state.
