Tanker Drivers Deny Embarking On Nationwide Protest

Members of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) have dismissed the report saying it would embark on a nationwide protest to demand the resignation of NUPENG President and its General Secretary, Williams Akporeha and Afolabi Olawale respectively.

The tanker drivers were reacting to a publication by Daily Trust which stated that their union’s ex-officio, Gbenga Olawale from Ibadan depot, said the PTD has directed its members across the country to move with leaves in front of their trucks to serve as a warning to NUPENG.

In a statement by the PTD National Chairman, Augustine Egbon, the tanker drivers described Olawale’s directive as “unfounded”, saying it is dangerous because it can cause panic in the supply chain of petroleum products distribution nationwide.

The association stated that it is not embarking on any form of protest and is determined to continue to render its services to the nation, in support of the efforts of the government of President Bola Tinubu in order, it says, to put Nigeria’s economy on the right track for the good of all.
