The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says the grid collapse yesterday was due to gas constraints at Ibom power plant, feeding Eket, Ekim, Itu & Uyo transmission substations.
In a statement, Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager, Public Affairs at TCN, said three hours before the collapse, total generation on the grid was about 3,900 Megawatts at 8am.

Mrs. Mbah also says that while power has been restored to the affected part of the grid, low power generation persists in the country since January 2024, to date as a result of the lingering gas constraint.
She adds that this constraint, combined with the current low power generation caused the imbalance leading to the partial system disturbance.
