The Arewa Economic Forum (AEF) is calling for the establishment of a regional security outfit that will complement the efforts of the military and police in fighting rising insecurity in northern Nigeria.
In a statement, the AEF Chairman, Mallam Ibrahim Yahaya Dandakata, says that for too long, insecurity has stunted the growth of the people and instilled fear in Northern communities where farmers can not till their lands, businesses can not operate freely, and students can not go to school in peace.
He advised the 19 Northern States to adopt the concept of regional security outfits like Amotekun Security Network in the Southwest.
He added that in the long run, a dedicated Security Trust Fund crucial to support the effectiveness of the outfits will have to be established. The Fund, he also adds, can ensure sustainable financing for training, equipment, and operational costs by pooling resources from state governments, donations, and other sources.
