Justice Obiora Egwuatu has granted bail to 67 minors out of 76 who were arraigned for their involvement in the August 2024 End Bad Governance protests, with each bail set at N10 million. The minors, all under the age of 15, are required to present one surety who must be a civil servant. In parallel, another 87 adults are currently facing arraignment on similar charges.
Radio Now had previously reported that some suspects aged between 12 and 15, brought by the Nigerian police for arraignment, fainted before Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The 75 youths are facing 10 counts of terrorism, an attempt to overthrow the government, and alleged mutiny linked to their involvement in a nationwide protest.
The suspects were reportedly detained since their arrest on August 3rd. The arraignment proceedings were interrupted when several of them collapsed in the courtroom, prompting Justice Egwuatu to halt the session.
The sudden incident raised concerns about the conditions under which the suspects had been held, contributing to the abrupt end of the court proceedings.
