More than ten people have been confirmed dead, with many others feared trapped, after heavy rains triggered landslides in eastern Uganda’s Bulambuli district. The Uganda Red Cross Society reported on Thursday that at least 13 bodies had been recovered, and 40 homes were completely buried across six villages.
Images from Masugu village showed large sections of earth covering the land, while videos on social media captured desperate rescue efforts in Kimono village as locals dug through rubble searching for survivors. The Red Cross warned that the death toll is likely to rise as rescue operations continue.

The recent heavy rains have caused widespread devastation, including flooding in Uganda’s northwest as a tributary of the Nile River burst its banks, cutting off major roads and prompting the prime minister’s office to issue a disaster alert on Wednesday.
Officials have called for urgent relief efforts to support affected communities, as the country grapples with the impact of extreme weather on its infrastructure and vulnerable populations.
