Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission Opens in Cape Town

The 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) began in Cape Town on Monday with a ministerial meeting co-chaired by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and South Africa’s Minister of International Relations, Dr. Roland Lamola. The session serves as a prelude to Tuesday’s presidential BNC, where Presidents Bola Tinubu and Cyril Ramaphosa will lead discussions.

The ministerial talks aim to evaluate progress in bilateral relations and finalise agreements across key areas, including trade and investment, political cooperation, migration, defence, and energy. Officials also plan to enhance collaboration in banking, agriculture, manufacturing, and digital innovation.

Nigeria’s delegation features senior ministers from Defence, Women Affairs, Trade, Agriculture, and Digital Economy, as well as the Comptroller-General of Immigration. They are joined by South African officials to deepen strategic partnerships.
