Workers in Ekiti State erupted in celebration on Tuesday as they began receiving their December salaries, reflecting the recently approved N70,000 minimum wage.
The joyous occasion saw hundreds of workers, including senior officials such as permanent secretaries, gathering at the Governor’s Office in Ado Ekiti. Jubilant scenes of singing and dancing unfolded as they expressed their gratitude for the wage increase.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji, flanked by Deputy Governor Mrs Monisade Afuye, Secretary to the State Government Habibat Adubiaro, and other key officials, stepped out from an ongoing State Executive Council meeting to join the elated workers.
The governor had announced in November that the new minimum wage would take effect from December 1, a promise that was fulfilled as bank alerts for the adjusted salaries began arriving on Tuesday. The development has been widely praised as a significant step towards improving workers’ welfare in the state.
